5/16/23: Our big food drive this year was held at a new venue, The Shipyards in Lorain. With 43 raffle baskets dontated or obtained by our committee members, all attendees that night were excited for the possibility of winning a fabulous basket! Our beneficiary for this event was We Care We Share. Between the non-perishable food our guests brought as their cost of admission, and the cash raised through ticket sales for the raffle baskets, we raised 8,404 pounds of food on this evening's event for We Care We Share!

10/19/2022 Our annual Chicks Against Hunger planning retreat and soup collection amongst our committee members brought in 386 pounds of soup that was donated to Commodore Cupboard at Lorain County Community College
9/29/2022 3,400 pounds of food was collected at the Cara's Boutique Fall Fashion Show, and this was donated to Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services.
7/10/2022 we collected 473 pounds of non perishable food at the Lake Erie Crusher's game which was donated to Pathways Enrichment Center
5/15/22 Once again our Sunday Funday food drive at Smitty's in Elyria didnt disappoint! We collected 3,965.5 pounds of food for our beneficiary, Oberlin Community Services.
our friends at Vandemark Jewelers donated profits from a holiday promotion equivalent to 1239 pounds of food which was given to Elyria Hospitality Center.
2021 results: 8,692 pounds of food
11/15/21 Cara's Boutique in Westlake collected 162 pounds of food at their annual holiday open house. This donation was given to Pathways Enrichment Center in Lorain.
10/14/21 At our annual Chicks Against Hunger retreat we collected a total of 432 pounds of soup for LCCC Commodore Cupboard
8/18/21 What a pleasant surprise from our friends at Cara's Boutique in Westlake - a donation equivalent to 160 pounds of food for Goodwill of Lorain County's food pantry!
8/8/21 - Our annual food drive at Smitty's was a huge success where we raised 5,513.5 pounds of food for St Agnes Table of Plenty food pantry in Elyria
7/27/21 We had such a fun night at the Lake Erie Crushers game where we were able to accomploish two thing. 1) we raised 785.5 pounds of food for Lorain County office on Aging Meals on Wheels program, and 2) our own chick Amy got to throw out the first pitch!
1133 pounds of food was donated to Table of Plenty Food Pantry (St Agnes) in Elyria. This donation was made possible by the generous donation from our friends at Vandemark Jewelers.
A $250 donation was made by a friend of Chicks Against Hunger in loving memory of a family member and this was given to LCCC Commodore Cupboard.
2020 results: 6,544.5 pounds of food
2020 was a tough year for everyone, the Covid-19 pandemic put a serious damper on so many of our plans this year, yet we are very proud of the fact that we still managed to raise 6,544.5 pounds of food this year. Special thanks to Smitty's in Elyria for helping us raise 4,078 pounds of food; Cara's Boutique for raising 256.5 pounds; and Detroit Chassis Avon who held an end of the year food drive with their employees generating 346 pounds of food.
1/7/20: Vandemark Jewelers generously donated proceeds from the sale of a limited number of bracelets sold during the Christmas holiday shopping season. The money was used to purchase 1,000 pounds of food which was donated to the Lorain County Office on Aging.

10/17/19: Chicks Against Hunger holds its annual retreat where board and committee members bring cans of soup donations. The collection totaled 319 pounds, which was given to Goodwill Lorain County food pantry.
8/29/19 & 10/8/19: Cara's Boutique in Westlake hosted two food drives benefiting Save Our Children in Elyria, and bringing in 798 points of food!
8/11/2019: Our 10th annual summer food drive collected 1,213 pounds of food which was given to North Ridgeville Community Care Center, 60 pounds of the food collected today came from Cara's Boutique's hot dog sale from earlier this summer!
5/21/19: Our 8th annual "Red Carpet Food Drive" hosted by Smitty's Restaurant in Elyria was a huge success for our beneficiary Neighborhood Alliance, and for all of our guests! We had over 50 gift baskets and raised 6,865 pounds of food for those in need in Lorain County. Jim Vandemark of Vandemark Jewelers was the recipient of our 2nd annual "Hunger Fighter Award" that night!
2/1/19: With help from some area businesses, we quickly coordinated a special food drive to help the government workers impacted by the government shut down. We collected 629 pounds of non-perishable food which was distributed by Community Resource Services (CRS) in Avon Lake, OH. Special thanks to the area businesses who were collection sites for us: Peace, Love & Little Donuts (Avon), Inogen, Cara's Boutique and LuvLox!
1/2019: Our very generous friends at Vandemark Jewelers donated 850 pounds of food to Elyria Hospitality Center. A great way to kick off the new year!

11/8/18: The employees of Rose Senior Living in Avon, Ohio collected 40 pounds of food that was donated to Elyria Hospitality Center.
10/11/18: Our annual Chicks Against Hunger committee retreat collected 257 pounds of food that was given to Elyria Hospitality Center.
9/8/18: Our 9th annual summer food drive brought in 901 pounds of food for The Elyria Hospitality Center
8/26/18 Cara's Boutique hosted a collection event with us which provided 450 pounds of food for St. Agnes food pantry! Clients who brought in non-perishable food donations were given a discount in the store that evening and a portion of Cara's Boutique's sales that night were given to St. Agnes food pantry!
5/22/2018 A record collection at our annual Smitty's Red Carpet event! In a few short, but very fun hours we collected 6,277 pounds of food for Lorain County Office On Aging. At this food drive, we honored Stephanie Forthofer of Smitty's Restaurant with our first annual "Hunger Fighter Award!" Congratulations Stephanie, and thank you for your generosity!
1/4/2018: Vandemark Jewelers donated 1,000 pounds of food to Lorain County Community College's Commodore Cupboard from the sale of special bracelets over the 2017 holiday season!

12/7/17: Cara's Boutique in Westlake invited us to collect non-perishable food at their Nora Fleming signing event! All food donations were given to St Agnes Table of Plenty Food Pantry in Elyria. This event raised 1,187 pounds of food!
10/25/17: Each of our committee members is required to bring a case of soup to our annual retreat and planning meeting for 2018. This year we raised 452 pounds of soup which was given to the Commodore Cupboard at Lorain County Community College.
9/10/17: Our 8th annual summer food drive raised 2,014 pounds of food which was donated to St. Mary's Choice Food Pantry in Lorain.
5/23/17: Our 6th annual Smitty's event never disappoints! So many new faces attended this year! The weather was perfect, everyone had a great time, and St Agnes food pantry of Elyria benefited from our efforts, with 4,637 pounds of food! Thank you Smittys Place, Elyria!

8/28/16: Our 7th annual summer food drive, with a twist! Chicks Against Hunger games was a food drive and corn hole tournament rolled into one great, but very hot, day! We raised 1,868 pounds of food for St. Mary's Choice Food Pantry in Lorain.
5/24/16: Our annual Girls Night Out at Smitty's in Elyria. A gorgeous evening... great food, great friends, great results! 5,266 pounds of food to benefit First Congregational United Church of Christ Food Pantry in Elyria.

11/15/12: Thank you Puffer's Floral for hosting an amazing pre-holiday girls night out shopping event to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio! In a couple of hours we collected 869 pounds of food, and Puffer's Floral generously donated $338 to Second Harvest. This event was very significant because it put the Chicks Against Hunger over the top of their 3 ton goal for 2012! Thank you so much Puffer's Floral.
8/12/12: On this day we collected 1,704 pounds of food for Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio. Special thanks to our student volunteers for their manual labor, our board for promoting this event and securing donations for the very generous businesses in our community, especially: Abbewood Senior Living, Avon Fire Dept, Avon Public Library, Avon's Mayor's office, Avon Policy Dept, Barrington Pumps, Botson Insurance, Caribou (Avon), The Chronicle Telegram, Chu To Bu West, Dairy Queen (Island Road), Dayton Freight Lines, The Gathering Placen (Westlake) Girl Scout Troop #482 (Avon), GRA Group, Great Lakes Computer, Home Depot (Avon), Jenne Distributors, Kaydon, Leadership Lorain County, M. E. Martin Co, The Retirement People, Two Bucks (Avon), WEOL AM 930, and YMCA (French Creek, Avon). Also thank you for everyone who stopped by that day to say "hi" and drop off their donation. It was a great day! Also, congratulations to Abbewood Senior Living for winning our food scultpture contest. Abbewood built Brutus Buckeye and the block "O" for The Ohio State University and unanimously won the sculpture contest! Brutus and his block "O" weighed 597 pounds! Thank you Abbewood!
6/22/12: With the very generous support of our friends at Smitty's Place in Elyria, we hosted a Girls' Night Out where 80+ woman enjoyed delicious food provided by Smitty's Place, and drink specials including the "chick-tini!" The price of admission was a non-perishable food donation, and in the spirit of this year's summer Olympics, medals were awarded depending on the weight of each guest's donation. All totaled, 1,939 pounds of food (almost a ton!) was raised for Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio on this one evening! A very good time was had by all!
6/9/12 & 6/10/12: This was a busy weekend for the Chicks! We spent the morning of 6/9 at Cafe 83 in North Ridgeville collecting food , then on 6/10 we were the YMCA's dance recital collection food as the price of admission. Our weekend efforts netted us 558 pounds of Food for Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio!
3/25/12: The French Creek YMCA held a spring dance recital and again the cost of admission was non-perishable food items. They raised 771 pounds of food for Chicks Against Hunger to give to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio! Thank you very much French Creek YMCA!

12/22/11: The French Creek YMCA held a dance recital and the cost of admission was a non-perishable food donation. They had great success and raised 815 pounds of food for Chicks Against Hunger to give to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio! Thank you very much French Creek YMCA!
12/2/11: Catanza's Barber Shops in Avon and Westlake Ohio ran a special during the month of November. Clients who brought in a least 2 non-perishable food items were given $2 off their haircut. Catanza's Barber Shops collected 236.5 pounds of food for Chicks Against Hunger to give to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio. Thank you Catanza's Barber Shops!
11/10/11: We call upon our Chicks Against Hunter committeed to bring non perishable food items to help us meet our goal. As usual they go above and beyond 337 pounds of food donated.
10/15/11: our un-food drive for Community Resource Services (CRS) brought in paper products, toiletry items and cleaning supplies in Avon and Avon Lake Ohio. Our efforts yielded approximately $1500 "egg-centials" combined with a $1500 donation from the Avon Heritage Festival!
8/14/11: Another ton (plus!) Thank you to everyone who helped to make our second annual Chicks Against Hunger food drive successful, despite all of the rain. 7/16/11: The Avon Commons Caribou Coffee sponsored a food collection for Chicks Against Hunger. In just a couple of hours we collected 230 pounds of food and $95 for Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio!
5/21/2011: Our first event of 2011 was a huge success thanks to the help of the Lorain County Jazzercise instructors from 6 different Jazzercise centers! In a 3 hour period, we raised 1,041 pounds of food and $170 for Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio!

Thank you to everyone who helped to make our first annual Chicks Against Hunger food drive a HUGE success. Whether you donated just one can or a whole car trunk-load, it all added up! With your help we collected a ton of food - literally (2,174 pounds to be exact)! This food was donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio.
We were overwhelmed and humbled by the generous support of our friends and the community. It was after this event that the 3 founding members of Chicks Against Hunger vowed to make this an annual event to benefit our community. 60 pounds of todays donation was from Cara's Boutique's hot dog sale earlier in the summer!
